Smothering mites with oil?

I have heard of people smothering mites with oil, and I noticed several times a whitehead would appear after putting olive oil on my face. I'm just wondering if this is nonsense or what.

Yea I tried olive oil and noticed it produced white heads. I don't think it is a treatment though, maybe just something to help. I'm wondering more about my hair. I have DS shampoo, and I order sulfur 2% shampoo and tea tree. Would soaking your hair in oil over night worsen the situation? It's hard to know what is a legit treatment.
