Photofacials and IPL

Post by cj »

Hi there,

I'm new to this site and am reading with interest all your messages. I was wondering if anyone had tried other methods for controling their rosacea such as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light - I think!) or V-beam.

I have a consult tomorrow with a doctor here in London who specialises in this treatment but am a little nervous and skeptical. If I'm being honest, I'm a bit skeptical about this aswell but am willing to give anything a go, especially as this is the first site that has mentioned those evil, itchy, bite like spots that appear out of nowhere and drive me up the wall

I would love to hear your experiences.

Thank you all so much for giving me hope!!

I had 5 laser treatments

Post by Lauren »

Hi CJ :

I am new here too, and finding all of this information about mites very interesting too. I have suffered from skin and scalp problems for as long as I can remember (about 20 years) and nothing seems to work.

I had FIVE of those "photofacials" done (laser skin treatments) and here I am today with 2 huge red, bumpy rashes around my nose, down one side of my mouth and on my chin. So I guess that is your answer (at least in my case, it didn't work), but I think the laser can heal damaged skin, so maybe it's good to do along with ZZ and XFM. I'm not sure if that would be too much at one time, though. Maybe some here knows?

I was also given Elocon cream for the past 2 years, and this didn't really work. I tried Tetracycline and Retin-A, Neosporin, lots of cosmetic lotions, acne creams, etc. Nothing works permanently or consisently.

I went to my Primary Care Doctor this week and was prescribed Metronidazole 0.75% and Betamethasone Valerate 0.1% and told to alternate them. The Metronidazole cream (Metrocream, also comes in Metrogel) seems to work a little, but I am still very red and itchy.

So I finally just decided "Why Not?" and ordered the ZZ and XFM, Acarid removing soap, YRENBAO Woman 30 Bag's, and ringworm cream for my feet (they have red, dry patches on them). Who knows if this will work, but I am so desperate I figured I would try this.

I also might be imagining this, but I swear I can feel tickling in my nose, under my eyes, and on my scalp! I wonder if it is the mites? (Gross!)

I hope that this is the answer. Good luck with your photofacial, and maybe you will have better results with it than I did!

YES YES YES, THESE ARE THE HABIT OF THE MITES! i had this happening for years on my neck, back and chest at different and unexplained times. a derm told me it was "folliculitis" and to scrub it hard with a brush and antibacterial soap. that did not work. this protocol did. but it takes time and dedication. don't give up too early and you will be happy with the results. most people are.

You have the typical symptoms to have a demodex mite problem, doing an IPL will only make it worse in this case, first eliminate the mites, then later, if still necessary to improve your skin, you can do other treatments.

Hey! Thanks everyone for replies. I have taken heed and have decided not to go ahead with IPL until after I have tried these products - then try it to help clear any left over red veins and bumps.
Am looking forward to receiving the zz and Xthingy and have convinced my husband to try it too as he also gets the bites (not the rosacea though - lucky him!).
Just for interest, something I have found that really helps is a 'memory foam' mattress cover - comfy too - and anti mite pillow slips. I accidentally swapped pillows with husband the other week, didn't notice and had worst symptoms for ages. Swapped back and I'm back to normal (well, as normal as possible.....)

Anti-mite pillow slips are sold as anti-allergen.
